Step Out for Parkinson’s Recap

It has nearly been one week since Step Out for Parkinson’sTM and we are still buzzing with excitement! Thank you to the more than 700 people who came along to Sunshine Coast University Track on 30 June to walk laps together in raising funds and awareness for people with Parkinson’s. Amusingly, some competitive and creative natures emerged amongst walkers as they dressed up or set out to reach lap goals. But special mention needs to be given to the people living with Parkinson’s who took to the track and logged a combined total of approximately 140km!!

RHPT’s Choir of Sound Intent, led by music director Riani Rattray, received lots of positive feedback for their beautiful performance at the event. It was truly an inspiration and encouragement to many, and we are so proud of each member for singing out with intent.

Also making a special appearance at Step Out for Parkinson’sTM, our benevolent bears, “Kevin” and “Scottie” played their part in raising funds through the auction. We are excited to share that both bears were sold for $450 each! The money raised will be shared between the three beneficiaries of the event: Restoring Hope Parkinson’s Therapy, Shake it Up Australia and The Parkinson’s Centre. The remaining 2024 Benevolent Bears will each be individually auctioned with all their proceeds going solely to the work of RHPT. The online auction for “Blake” opened on 30 June and will run until 14 July.

To date, Step Out for Parkinson’s has currently raised nearly $34 000!! Thank you to the Parkinson’s Wellness Centre for organising this annual event and for including Restoring Hope Parkinson’s Therapy as one of the beneficiaries for 2024.
