Student Open Day

Speech Pathologists are a vital part of the multidisciplinary team required to support people living with Parkinson’s.

Last Wednesday, Restoring Hope Parkinson’s Therapy welcomed Speech Pathology students to a Student Open Day at the RHPT Clinic. This gave an opportunity to provide a deeper, practical understanding of the role of speech therapy for people living with Parkinson’s. It was a great day of eating, drinking, speaking, singing and being merry … all with INTENT!

Having received an international grant from the Parkinson Voice Project for the sixth year in a row, this year’s grant enabled the Speech Pathology students to receive SPEAK OUT!® training. Then at the Student Open Day, the students participated in mock sessions using the Parkinson Voice Project SPEAK OUT!® therapy program, and heard firsthand the difference that speech therapy makes to restoring the voices of people with Parkinson’s. Our very experienced Speech Pathology team also shared their own experiences.

Thank you to the fantastic group of people – staff, students and volunteers – that joined us.
